The Queenslander
The typical Queenslander was a house built for the Sub-tropics. Weatherboard hardwood cladding, for coolness and durability against whiteants and cyclones.Wide open verandahs for cross ventillation and shade.Set high on timber stilts for coolness and a downstairs area for storage, laundry, workshops , car and childrens play area- originally bare dirt and often later concreted. Living area floored in wide hardwood floorboards and the ubiquitous corrugated iron roof to amplify the roar of the tropical downpours.
