Great Ocean Cliffs
For hundreds of Kms the Great Ocean Road at the eastern end of Australias southern coastline runs along these magnificent eroded cliffs which once joined the Australian continent to the Antarctic land mass. Far below the relentless surf of the South Pacific Ocean where Bass Strait separates the mainland from Tasmania swirls and thunders at the undermined baseline of these cliffs of soft orange sandy stone. The cliffs take on an even more remarkable glow in the late afternoon sun. There are many named landmarks for tourists to explore along this coast and in many areas it is possible to follow well maintained paths and stairs to the golden beaches below. Penguins seals and great white sharks inhabit these waters.
