This is an ETCHING . The original plate is only 5X3 inches so you can see that the detail is very fine indeed. The image which is originally drawn freehand onto a metal etching plate coated with a hard acid resistant ground is bitten into the metal using a series of immersions in an acid bath and eventually the inked plate is printed on an etching press. Each printing is a lengthy process of inking and wiping the plate and each image is unique in quality even though consistency is aimed for. In this case this is the 3rd printing in a limited edition of 50. A quietly humorous image of a chimp looking for a lift.
