This watercolour was painted in 1979. It is a collection of images gleaned from various parts of New Guinea Island including carvings I photographed in the Sepik River area early in the 70s and village scenes from the Goroka area. I painted this 4 years after leaving PNG where I had lived and worked for nearly 6 years as the country moved from self government to full independence.These paintings are not meant to be factual representations of certain places but evocative of the whole region and are in particular designed to keep alive my personal memories of a most eventful period in my early career.
